Dear Nalini,
Thanks for your
posting which came via “casa-de-Goa’ I appreciate very much the efforts that you are doing to teach Portuguese and Spanish in Goa .
But curiously, the full list at TO is taken from one of my precious postings ! and one of them is already …in Heaven: Berardo Pinto Pereira, who died here in Goa and the news came in the local media.! Now, that list includes persons who are …in Portugal
and elsewhere abroad and so ..they will not definitely come down to Goa for the Courses, but will appreciate your efforts.
I take this opportunity to convey to you my impressions of the last “Contacto Goa”:
1 The news did not come , if I am right . in the local media, nor I received your usual circular letter.
2. On the previous day, I HAPPENED to be tuned to RPTI, when at the end of a programme came an announcement” :” CONTACTO GOA …AMANHA” As usual no time in given !!
3.When I opened the TV , the interview with Adv .Usgaokar was on.Very interesting well documented. But when the camera was focused suddenly on my
friend Dr. Fernando Colaco…he was just shown writing something. What was the connection? Why was he not given a chance to speak.?
4.The next episode was an interview with Laurie Pires, the well known musician, with this Band, etc. But he was shown , fully dressed in Portuguese folk dresses along with his wife dancing a Portuguese folkdance…in his small hall at his residence!! Which I know very well as it is just opposite my residence.
So this was “created” for the occasion. My opinion is that each episode should focus our Goa
as you see and not with situations CREATED for the purpose.
I will quote another example; long back on episode was on the “musical’ Monteiro family of Candolim, and one its members being the well known “Padri Chico” which even the family did not bother to speak about .
Fine .Then the family going for their lunch or dinner which was a rich buffet !!
You being a Goan, and now in Goa, will agree with me that in no
family in Goa , however much “fidalga” it may be, the daily meals are done in a buffet form.
My suggestion to you will therefore be:
- More publicity in the local media
- The RTPI show correct timings like the BBC, Doordarshan, CNN,etc and start by the second and not sometimes a few mts earlier or a few mts later
- The “Episodes” should show the real
Goa today,as you did with Adv Usgaocar and not almost ridiculous Portuguese folk danses perfomed in a small family hall. just to be filmed and shown to the WORLD that Goans even now dance in their dresses in their litle halls - Choose things of
Goa today, say ike “Shanti Avedna Ashram” in Loutolim, which you as a wife of a well known surgeon must have heard about.
With kind regards to you and all the Recipients
