Halarnakar to chair Konkani conference in Mangalore
PANAJI: The editor of Konkani encyclopedia Dr Tanaji Halarnakar was
elected as the president of the 23rd session of the All India Konkani
conference to be held on 20 April in Mangalore. The two day
conference will deal with social, cultural, educational, lingual
development of Konkani community residing in Goa, Maharashtra,
Karnataka, Kerala and other parts of the country.
The reception committee headed by the president of Karnataka Konkani
Academy Alexander D'Souza, working president Basti Waman Shenoi, vice
president Eric Ozario has alredy started the preparatory work which
is reciving encouraging response from all regions. Dr Tanaji
Halarnakar is actively associated with the Konkani movement for the
last forty years and held several positions likepresident of Konkani
Bhasha Mandal, working president of All India Konkani Parishad,
member of working committee of Goa Konkani Academy. In addition, as
an advisor he has represented Konkani at Bhartiya Dyanapith Award
Committee, Union Public Service Commission, Thomas Stephens Konkani
Kendra, text books production board, Government of Goa. Dr Halarnakar
has to his credit several poems, short stories, dramas and essays in
both Konkani and Marathi. Some of them are included in the
anthologies and text books. Some are translated in other languages.
The four volume Konkani encyclopedia, the first of its kind, edited
by Dr Halarnakar is an epoch-making contribution to Konkani
development, which has helped to enrich Konkani language. This
ambitious project of the Goa University was successfully completed
under the guidance of Dr Halarnakar.
Dr Halarnakar has been honoured for his dedicated and sincere service
for the promotin of Konkani with the prestigious Anton Pereira award
instituted by Thomas Stephens Konkani Kendra. In the past, Dr
Halarnakar has successfully conducted many programmes dealing with
all round development of Konkani. It is now expected that under his
leadership, the functioning of the parishad will bring the desired
results in the line of its aims and objectives, as designed in the
constitution.
