Libanos’ to launch cookies

— Libanos’, a Goa-based cookie manufacturing company
with a presence in some of the western countries,
plans to launch a new range of cookies in the State on
August 22, 2003. The new products of Libanos in the
pipeline are Lemon cookies, oat meal cookies, butter
bread rolls, soup sticks and bar cakes: chocolate
cake, butter cake and fruit and nut cake.

Addressing a press conference here, Sidney Libano, the
brain behind the company says 'Libanos' is currently
manufacturing five brands of cookies — butter, ginger
bites, corn flakes crispies, cashew nut and chocolate
chip cookies. “Each of them has a unique flavour and
are prepared with utmost care in the most hygienic
conditions vis-a-vis the proportion of ingredients,
shape and baking temperature”, he said.

Hailing from a traditional Portuguese-Goan family from
Porvorim, Sidney says he always had an intense passion
for baking since the age of five years. Now, 20 years
later, that passion has not died yet, but only
increased. Sidney was also inspired by his sister,
Cilena Libano, who is an excellent food speacialist
herself. He is an active member of the Board of a
German social service agency called “Salt of the earth
and light of the world”. “Working with the Germans has
made me more efficient, and has instilled in me a
die-hard spirit”, he says. And, his cookies has
travelled even more than him. America, Canada,
Denmark, Switzerland, the Middle East, Australia and
Russia are some of the places wehre the cookies have
been consumed and much appreciated.

Says Sidney: “There was no formal launch of the
cookies in these countries. They were just sent there
during my visit abroad”, he added.

Libano has also conducted many short-term bakery
courses in Goa and the Middle East and often travels
to Europe, mainly Germany and keep in touch with the
latest trends in the baking industry. M S Rao, the
proprietor of Suma Foods is the sole distributor of
Libano products in Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
