Re: [hydrologymodel] About tanks

Dear Mr Sathyanathan

the way you describe your problem you should try the australian model
Watercress. This is very usefull in describing conjunctive use of various
water resources, such as runoff, groundwater, effluent, etc.

You can download it at: http://www.waterselect.com.au

Cheers,
Matthijs

Respected sirs,

As many of the scientist felt that the information given on "About Tanks"
was not sufficient, I would like to elaborate my query.

The study area is irrigated by three sources namely canal, tanks and wells.
The main canal is running to a length of 58 km and there are twelve branch
canals and 58 direct sluices taking off from the main canal. The total
number of tanks is around 1500. Besides the area is also irrigated by
wells. The large number of tanks formed in the command area get water
supplies from three sources, namely from their own catchments, from the
canals and from the operational wastes of the project i.e. losses in the
irrigation system. In this context I am interested to do simulation of
water balance including allocation of surface and ground water for
irrigation. At this juncture could you please suggest which hydrological
model would be very useful to accomplish the task. The comments are most
appreciable.

With thanks,
R. Sathyanathan.

Dear Sir,

Perhaps you should be a bit more explicit and describe better your
problem. Type of catchment and of the tanks?, purpose of the tanks, are
they working as normal reservoirs? etc. Only then we could give you a
piece of advice.

Cordially,

R. Vazquez
