for ur question this may be the answer...

stream delineation using 8direction method would not give you better
results normally... also what is your DEM resolution... this 'll also
affect the stream network quality..

you just try the stream burning technique ... this is good for flat
terrain watershed like chennai watershed....

which sub watershed you area working Adayar of Coovam?....

If you are having ARCGIS 8.3/9X download the PREPRO2002 extension and
install it ...it is having stream burning option.... this 'll solve
you problem....
