Scientist – Subsurface Contaminant Transformations

Lincoln Ventures Ltd. offers an exciting opportunity to work with an
internationally recognised team of scientists and engineers. Our
Lincoln Environmental Research team focuses on groundwater quality
protection and water resources management. The team studies the
impacts of land use on groundwater, particularly the dynamics of
water and agricultural contaminants in the vadose zone-aquifer
continuum. Our monitoring and experimental work at various field
sites is closely linked to the development and use of mathematical
models, ranging from process-oriented nitrogen transport and
transformation models to end-user focused decision support systems.

To complement our Hamilton team, we are offering an exciting
position for an experienced research scientist with the following
person specification:

Qualifications and experience

Essential

· PhD in subsurface hydrology, geohydrology, soil science,
biogeochemistry, applied mathematics, or related area.
· A strong research and modelling background with a focus on
subsurface contaminant transport and transformation processes.

· Strong numerical skills and fluency in scientific
programming languages (preferred Fortran, Matlab).

Preferred

· Experience with modelling of vadose zone/aquifer nitrogen
and carbon transformations (e.g. PHREEQC) and/or general subsurface
hydrological modelling (e.g. FEMWATER, Modflow).

· Experience with development of mathematical models, from
conceptualisation to implementation.
· Experience with measurement of relevant vadose zone/aquifer
properties.

Competencies required

· Strong inter-personal and project management skills.
· Enthusiastic about working in a multi-disciplinary research
team.
· Adaptable, innovative, and solution-focused.
· Sound background in the use of mathematical modelling as a
research tool.
· Proven ability to write scientific papers for an
international audience.

This is a full-time permanent position and will be located at our
Hamilton office. Salary will be based on qualifications and
experience.
