I beg to differ here Gene, GNU/Linux and Free Software gives us that power to not be at anyone's Mercy. Dell had to bent to the customer demand and offer Ubuntu. Microsoft had to extend life of XP (which is crap either way).
When I met with Klaus Knopper (creator of Knoppix) and Brian Bhelendorf (founder Apache), their one line answer was, what ever is closed refuse it. Do ask the vendor if it suppors Linux or not, even if you know it does support. That way the message will reach comapnies that there is a chunk of usres which want Linux. Intel has lately increased usage of Linux in its MIDs and even Nokia, which owns 40% of Symbian, has embraced Linux. So, this is the new wave, its a revolution, its better to be a part of it.
I trust you already are Gene. By the way, just out of curiosity may I ask, what OS do you use?
