Re: Re: [indiansciencefiction] Fwd: Adbhut ... do we publish our work using self-publishing
Another way is:
Each author provides typed version of his/ her manuscript on CD in a pre- decided format. 20 authors contributing 1000/ each can help the M/S see the light of the day. Each author gets some copies gratis (editors a little more a they will arrange for review etc. also) which he may sell (at a pre- decided price, say, twice of the cost) or gift. Producing medium class copies will not cost too much. The distribution network of publishers is difficult to match. May be in this cooperative manner, bundles may be mailed/ sent to some cities and the interested people can arrange to have them picked up. However, this alternative calls for tremendous voluntary spirit, quite rare these days (how many will be ready to come, pay and pick up copy, or agree to carry a bundle back while visiting?). If there are readers, these books will be cheaper than others in the market. Marginof the moneygoes towards postage.

Bimal ji , Dinekar Charak's proposal reflects our own predicament how to reach to public with our works without being exploited by greedy publishers. So it is need of hour to work out some modalities to deal with situation. Dinekar's idea may be just one of them .But million dollar question remains how to handle the expenses with or without monetary gains ! Indian Science Fiction writers' Association has this issue in its agenda among other pertinent issues and if something concrete emerges out it shall be communicated to you all through this forum. -arvind
