There is a lot of difference in writing a quick email and writing a novel after months and sometimes years of research and hard work. You are being very hard on yourself -- it was just a casual greeting, I do not think it is fair to pass any judgments on Indian sf writers based on that.

 

Especially in the case of Australia, everyone considers it a "western" country and it is very hard to remember that it is actually in the east of India. Social and cultural constructs often have an effect on scientific thought -- for example, white colonisers believed that black and Asian people were inferior; so they (mis)applied Darwin's theory of evolution and said that blacks are actually not fully evolved as humans, that they are the "missing link" in the evolution of man.
And sf novelists constructed Chinese and japanese like dangerous alien invaders -- short in height and yellow coloured.
