National Council for Science and Technology
Communication (NCSTC/DST)
Indian Science Communication Society (ISCOS)
Indian Science Writers’ Association (ISWA)
Announce

7th National Science Communication Congress
(NSCC-2007)
Technology Communication and Development
December 05-09, 2007
Conference Hall, Indian National Science Academy
(INSA), Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi-110002,
India

Communication of fire churning technology would have
been an early example of technology communication for
the human civilisation. Technology is the practical
and applicable part of science. It therefore derives
that science has cognitive dimensions and technology
having applied dimensions. It provides a way to the
human mind to put onto shape the abstract and complex
reasoning and concept into existence. While analysing
civilisations and societies and their advancement,
there emerge certain qualities or traits that a
society can be said to have acquired over the period
of its existence. These qualities certainly can be
said to having role in the continuous shaping and
development. In fact there is a whole range of these
attributes which help apparent and obvious character
and performance of this human collective. These can be
cited as the general spirit of adventure, enterprising
nature, inquisitiveness, rationality, reasoning,
innovativeness, and skill temperament, etc.
Technological temper is yet another aspect of these
societal attributes. It imparts to the society
qualities associated with the conduct and appreciation
of technology and related areas and their amalgamation
into the social behaviour. Technology communication is
conceptually anticipated as the activity that is sure
to enhance this trait in the society. It is also
associated with technology orientation, technology
generation and propagation and with the basic quality
of converting concepts into technology. This also
means the characteristic of identifying necessity and
the ability to experiment, refinement and fine tuning
the process, product and service. A notable feature of
technology and technology communication is that it is
indeed a great leveller gaps created on the fronts of
literacy. This also means that technological concepts
and traits can be communicated irrespective to
literacy and education of the target recipient. This
is for the fact that technology is the science that is
associated with the practical dimensions.
Technological temper can make a huge difference in
today’s world, where scientific knowledge is aplenty.
One, who translates scientific concepts into
technological applications, is able to create huge
difference in social echelons. This leads to
innovativeness in the society. It is one of the
essential ingredients for prosperity of nations.
Besides the obvious impact such as skill enhancement
and developing an eye and habit for application to
achieve excellence in each and every walk of life, the
first thing likely to emerge is technological temper
in the society. Technological temper leads to creating
a technological friendliness amongst the population.
The cause and effect vis-à-vis technological temper
and technology communication shall be one such area
needing probing this forum. It will be interesting to
share and discuss the efforts and developments towards
technology communication and technological temper in
the history of mankind. These and several other issues
are intended to be debated at the various sessions. It
has also been thought necessary that various sub
genres under the creative forms be discussed
threadbare vis-à-vis technology communication. There
may also be some not yet identified trends in these
issues and it may also be given space during the
course of discussion. There are several linkages,
interrelations and concerns related to these. A
session is also devised to chalk out the steps to be
followed so that the genre finds the appropriate
trigger to shape out the future course towards
achieving the aims of technology communication. The
NSCC-2007 shall be delving deep into the act and
various aspects shall be dealt at and explored on the

There shouldn't be any reference of Naked Law, if Adam Law is going to launch it, otherwise he will not be able to have the same name property online. Thus any reference to Mills and Reeve is irrelevant in this context.

There are many online properties emerging online. I am already heading the technology news portal EFYTimes.com and at times we need to have the content ready before hand. So, Law's efforts are commendable.

Mr Law you must have some domain name registered for the online property, what is the URL so that we can have an idea of the progress.

Also there shouldn't be any 'fear' per say. What harm would this cause, its beyond my understanding besides time wastage.

However, Mr Law, just out of curiosity, we would like to learn more about your visit to India? That would help us arrange interaction accordingly. Also who else are you meeting while you will be in India?

And, just what is the Naked Law all about, what is your revenue generation model? I mean how are you going to sustain ;-)

The 419 scam and its variations are generally naked in their appeal to the greed of the recipients. The "interview opportunity" sounded to me like someone who's looking for a way to add content to a web site, in other words, it is up front. It probably wouldn't hurt to inquire further.

1.  There is nothing surprising or  suspicious in someone interested in sci- fi trying to interview a leading scie- fi writer.  No doubt that the name of the organisation is a bit unconventional.  But now that there is a doubut in mind, it's good to excercise care.  Ask them about the form of interview (online/ video- recording/ telephonic, written) and its ultimate use.  They are going to take several months for the programme.

2.  When they conduct interview, you'd know if a question should be answered.  Don't comment on any govt. policy etc.  If uncomfortable with the question, don't answer.  Don't shoot off an answer, take a a few  seconds to arrange thoughts.

3.  As an additional pre- caution, you may give written answers (to avoid distortion) or atleast back up your answers with a written text.  Also keep a tape recording of conversation.

4. When talking with unknown jornalists, there is nothing like off- the- record. Everything yu say can be printed/ broadcast.

5. Refuse if there are any demands- money, invitation letters to help visa etc..   You don't know them at all (the magazine is yet to be launched!)

6. Check the site they have mentioned and make your judgement.  sometime names can be misleading and it may turn out to be a nice experience at the end.

I hope I have not scared you.

Wishing you a nice experience.
