Friends
Celebration of 'Software Freedom Day' is a positive step in awakening people
to the hidden dangers of existing state of affairs.
However i wont be able to attend as I am in USA.
Best wishes for the 'Software Freedom Day'

I have taken an initiative in that direction and posted in the Delhi Lug, lets see whats the response.

Dear Friends,

The coming 20th September will be celebrated as the Software Freedom Day, I was checking the Google Map and found that no celebration has been planned in Delhi as yet. So, I propose to let's meet and celebrate the Day in Delhi. We can also plan certain activities for the day which will further connect us and help increase awareness about the Free Software. However, if someone is already organising such event, then I would not want the resources to be wasted and we can work together, assisting each other.

Please feel free to take this discussion further so that we can come up with something in time.

The best course will be to write about them, talk about them (something Tiwari jee has been doing very well).  Writing about Einstein and the like is fine (I only said: However, it will be damaging to be confined to the foreign scientists alone).

Incidently, Vigyan, a popular monthly science magazine in Hindi, gives prizes for the best biographical account of any scientist published in Vigyan every year.  Any takers?

Friends,
Nautial jee has advanced the proposal about heros and therefore demands more attention.
I am glad that he quoted from his own paper, which goes to whow that he has been
thinking about this problem for some time.
Now can we move forward?
How to project heros, in this age of demonic meida's domination, that will help the young generation
to better self expression, to better help the nation in advancing in fields that increase not only the GNP,
 but also the human values.?

We are not short of heros. In this age of science and technology we have great persons doing great deeds,
e.g. Kalam and his entire 'space team, some scientists from reaearch labs in
Lucknow, Hyderabad and Bangalore etc etc.
Defence dept has produced exceptionally devoted, brave and able heros.
We have some internationally reputed literaateurs, painters, theatre personalities and musicians and dance artists.
Great thinkers in vrious fields.
But the problem is the media whose main aim is 'Brute Profit', even inauspicius profit.
So how do we go about?
In my humble way, inter alia,  I wrote a serial of 32 articles on Kalam describing his inspiring actions specially for youth.
Whilst agreeing with CMN that we should project national heros more than foriegners, I have been
writing articles on Einstein with the same purpose.
I narrate stories of indian heros to children. My NGO is now having about 1000 children on its role.
Please do not treat this as blowing of my trumpet. This is merely to indicate that I am walkong my talk as well.
Friends
let us go with this vital task in our own ways.

VMT
More needs to be done.

Tiwari jee has raised an important point.

The range of role models should be wide.  Media has a serious role to play.  Somehow, they seem to revel in pushing and puling film and cricket stars alone.  People may choose their own role model.  But do we offer them enough?  There are heroes in every field.  Let's project all of them kargil heroes included.

I can't help quoting from my article:

"The society follows role models, be it cricketers, politicians or artistes.  These days, the media plays a critical role in creating role models.  It’s necessary to project (deserving) scientists, international or otherwise, to show that society wants them.  However, it will be damaging to be confined to the foreign scientists alone, or to only those decorated by the advanced countries.  This is because people from the developing or under developed countries wouldn't easily relate to the heroes from advanced places.  Models who belong to the same place, give the people a feeling of self respect. Social similarity with the role model reassures people that they can emulate the models.  The debates about genetic superiority are not new and a country's own models give more confidence to people.  Every society should also find and project its own role models."

Friends,
Nautial jee has advanced the proposal about heros and therefore demands more attention.

The Leh-Batalik road is as notorious as the Srinagar-Kargil road. At its beginning lie staging areas, at its end fierce fighting and often, death. Jawans patrol the rugged slopes near Batalik. For them, there is little time for rest and little time to think, always poised on the edge of action.

Dear Friends,

We are giving finishing touches to planning  of a great gala sf event in India. Please stand by for a curtain raiser announcement.Hopefully we are going to convene a gathering of Indian  sf writers, critiques and mainstream media celebrities shortly in culturally vibrant city of Varanasi.

An official announcement jointly  from National Council of Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Govt of India  and Indian Science Fiction Writers Association (ISFWA) is in pipeline and would be made public shortly.

Meanwhile please reserve your dates and stop entertaining any other engagements in 2nd  week of the November 08 ,I assure you of really a great experience  in terms of opportunity costs inclined in favour of  this hitherto unique sf event  in India.

This is first call with an aim to sensitize all those who are genuinely concerned with the genre.

I also extend my hearty  invitation to Mr.Gene Van Toyer to please be the guest of  honour [Are you listening Gene ?] and grace the occasion by your magnanimous presence.

This tentative announcement is also for those friends and members from abroad who could mange their travel expenses and avail all the local hospitalities as a token of our affection  to them.

Please respond and feel free to address any queries regarding the event.

And wait for the final announcement which is under process.

Welcome you all to Varanasi-a vantage rendezvous in midst of all that  time and space perspectives.

Dear Arvind jee,

Great news from you.

However, BSIP will celebrating its Founder's Day function during Nov. 14th- 17th as per tradition for about 60 years.  So for me it will be impossible to leave Lko during Nov. 10th and 17th. However, if the programme is during early part of second week, I may have the pleasure of attending it.

In any case, best wishes for the event.  I am sure many would be able to come.

Dear Sir/Madam,

As you are aware that, the Indian Science congress Association (ISCA) is one of the premier organization of science and technology of the country, with leading role in formulating ideas for education and concepts for the advancement of  both basic and applied science, technology, food production and industrial development for overall improvement of quality of life. Each year the ISCA holds its annual session from 3 – 7 January which is famously known as Indian science congress and is attended by a majority of the persons associated with the science and technology in the country and abroad. The annual session provides a platform to share the ideas, understand the ongoing research activities in various institutes, and meet the luminaries of science and technology. It also provides an opportunity to develop scientific collaborations between the researchers and their organizations.  The 96th ISCA will be held from 3-7 January 2009 and is being hosted by North Eastern Hill University,  Shillong.

This year, I have been elected to preside over the Animal, Veterinary and Fisheries Sciences session to be held from 3-7 January 2009.  The Animal, Veterinary and Fisheries Sciences section proposes to discuss the theme `Animal, Veterinary and Fisheries Science Education: Innovations, Policy and Practice to Meet the Emerging Challenges'. This theme is in tune with the general theme of the congress –`Science Education and Attraction of Talent'.  It is also proposed to organize two symposiums one on `Climate Change- Challenges for Livestock and Fish Production' and another on `Sustainable Utilization of Bioresources''. It is a great pleasure to invite you to the 96th Indian Science Congress especially to this section.
