Message was loud and clear and in both audible and visual forms. While
liquid crystal display put the words shining on the visiophone
screen, its speaker played the same message aloud.
''You shall be approached shortly by a group of human delegation who
shall take you both to their local base camp to hand over the required
bonanza ie the first consignment of deuterium as friendly
gesture...PLEASE accept it... come back and your job is finished..and
for galactca's sake don't be argumentative with the delegation. They
may not like to answer your all questions. And it may be just that you
may put some silly questions which may affect our newly hatched
diplomatic relations...be cautious and careful... all and over..THE
MISSION CONTROL..." Message ended abruptly...
"We are cautious and careful you goons, now I can sense something odd
is definitely going on and we must resist it...do you follow me
REETA?"Kim uttered in a whispering sound which could barely be heard
by Reeta.
"Cool down Kim,don't be panic and exaggerate the things...lets solve
it carefully ...'Reeta also whispered...
Soon they were engrossed in making some secret plan and of course a
little bit of love which they were deprived of since they left their
homeland..

Friends,
I was and still am very busy with my son and his family who have come here
from USA on a vacation.
However the story has been put on a brink! And something must be done, so
here is my attempt :

Reetaa though got scared a little, said," Look here Kim, I am totally
confused, Nothing is making sense. It is all illogical. Why are the
earthlings warning us if they want to harm us ? Are we suffering from
hallucination or something ?
Kim saisd," I have no logical explanation, but I think it is our own control
at Galaxy Nelka which is trying to traumatize us, at least confuse us.!"
" Or warn us ?",said Reetaa. " May be our bosses have now
realized that Earthlings may harm us, and may be earthlings are monitoring
our communication, so .....
Suddely the phome console lit up, and both immediately looked at it.

Twist by Reema is just marvelous and a well timed intervention but the
turning point of the story still seems far off as Zeashan ji has
played his favorite tilism trick which also needs befitting
accommodation and I wish to snatch the opportunity.
An SOS traveling through the huge vastness of the Nelka Galaxy flashed
on the monitor of 'voyage earth' control unit on the planet Jaya and
read as follows-
Hello!this is an update from earth...base/slot no.91...
Our first attempt to lure your astronauts to step out is aborted..they
seem suspicious and you know we were skeptical about this and already
warned you about this.. .we even beamed the false message to mislead
them about our presence through our synergi communiation system and
then we even used a human bait,an aboriginal to lure them come out of
the ship. You know we are helpless to do anything so far they are
inside the secured environs of the spaceship. Our success depends only
on their exodus..exit from the closet and we are working out at some
other strategies..Let's see if that bear the fruit..

Now its up to Tiwari ji sir who have the capability to even enliven a
spoilsport and turn sour milk to nectar. Tiwari ji are you listening
sir?And Anant ji why not your blessings too sir!

What could be the hidden agenda? Any guesses?  You'd remember that intuitive Kim was suspicious about the motive the mission to earth in search of deuterium.

Could it be that Kim and may be even Reeta were undesired  on their planet?
Could it be that they were unsuspecting part of the army which formed some nefarious design of their Robot- bosses.

Don't forget the remark by Tiwari jee whichclearly put things in perspective.  Kim and Reeta are sub- ordinates to robots.  Or is their some virtual bosses/  What say Arvind jee and Reeta jee?  Does this fit in with your concept of virtual reality?

Why and how did he vanish?

master of this story session. Now a brief input from me-

As specially designed fully automated space shuttle hurtled towards
earth the frightening possibility of some foul game by earthlings
still throbbed the minds of Reeta and Kim.What if they don't behave
in the manner they are supposed to do.In that case what and how they
could do to protect themselves? As the mission control has
categorically denied any such eventuality there is no foolproof
defense system inbuilt in the spaceship or a defined strategy to
cope up with any such event. Both were silent as such thoughts kept on
piercing their minds.
Kim looked pale and glanced shyly at Reeta and lowered his eyes. The
spaceship was gathering speed as it moved away further from their home
land in the galaxy Nelka.
Kim and Reeta both stared at the planet beneath and were stupefied to
behold the beauty of the planet earth. The lush green plains, snow white
mountains and turbulent seas all kept them mesmerized for the moment.
The time of landing was approaching fast. They positioned their ship
towards the site of landing, the non nondescript lakpur area of the
valleys of Himalaya.

They positioned their ship
towards the site of landing, the non nondescript lakpur area of the
valleys of Himalaya.

defense system inbuilt in the spaceship or a defined strategy to
cope up with any such event.

Here's the twist then:

After the fwe tense moments during touchdown, Kim and Reeta were too relieved to notice the alarming message on their screen for a minute. Then they both saw it together and stared at each other, motionless.

"ATTENTION: No earthlings detected at their designated centre.
No earthlings around the shuttle within a diameter of 10 kilometres."

Before they could react, the phone monitor lit up brightly and they listened carefully, "Do not panic. We know that this is unexpected. However, we have already established the cause -- the earthlings were prevented from arriving due to a landslide which blocked their land route. We are sure they will arrive shortly. Please be patient."

Kim and Reeta had no choice but to resign themselves to this suspense of indefinite waiting. The enormity of the dangers involved made them both silent and thoughtful. Kim's original suspicion of a hidden agenda behind this trip to Earth resurfaced with double the conviction. Would they even know if some robot from the shuttle detached itself and began whatever secret mission it was supposed to carry out?

Meanwhile, Reeta's thoughts were back on her daughter. Would they ever meet again? Obtaining deuterium from this planet seemed more and more an impossibility with each passing moment.

Time passed rather slowly...

" Is it logical to have blind faith"? questioned Kim.
Suddely the Intergalactic phone rang, the screen became alive and both
looked at it keenly, Reetaa was relieved for she didnt have to answer the
awkward question.

I am glad, said Reetaa. And she wrote a few lines on a peace of paper, and

Kim read it " The message confirms your doubts. They are hiding the reality

Kim wrote back, "We have to form a new language between us, and always

Reetaa looked worried, she had to, for she had a daughter back home though

Reeta took a deep breath and decided to go over the official instructions once agin in her mind. They had been told that the earthlings had divided their living space into what they termed "nations" but were referred to as Slots for convenience. The mission was to go to Slot No. 91 at a place called "lakpur" in a high altitude area known as the "Himalayas" (she often wondered how the earthlings pronounced these difficult words). Contact had already been established with a group of friendly earthlings at this place whom they would meet. According to general policy, they were not to do anything as foolhardy as to step out of their vessel on an alien planet. Two earthlings had been selected to come aboard their vessel. Reeta and Kim were to provide them with the suitable containers and machinery for collecting samples of the materials that they needed from Earth to study it in full detail. Instruction manuals to operate these had already been prepared in the earthling form of communication. And this is where the cause for worry came in. How far could these two Earthlings be trusted? Kim was right about having his reservations after all.

I have pasted the story till now and at the end, written a few lines. However, please consider that I'm not a creative writer and am joining in just for the spirit of sportsmanship.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

22.06.2007

1.  Kim was dazed.  He tried to look hard- deep into the space.  Nothing was visible.  He turned his eyes to look at his control watch on his left hand.  Everything looked normal, the BP, heart beat, temperature..  Then why was he feeling uneasy?  may be it was ot functioning properly.  Reeta was sitting in the chair in front with her eyes closed.

CMN

'Why don't you drop more hints, kindly?', Reeta said somewhat sarcastically.

There was no answer from Kim.  This seemed to irritate Reeta even more, 'I am addressing you, Kim.  When you say something is amiss, why do you say so?  We can not abort the whole mission just because of your god damn gut feeling.  Do you know how much has been invested in this mission?'

Kim raised his face to look into her eyes straight, 'Reeta, I told you.  It's my gut feeling.  I can' explain it.  If I could explain it, I wouldn't have termed it so.'

'Stop being vague.  It's  a serious issue.  You seem to be  imagining too much.  may be you should take a break. That will do you good.'

Hot discussions were nothing new between the two.  But they made a perfect team, these frequent exchanges notwithstanding.  The two were as much apart in temperament as one can imagine.  But they complimented each other.  Kim with his astonishing intuitive capability which he referred to his gut feeling and Reeta with her extra-ordinary logical power, photographic memory, and capability of thinking on toes.

'I tell you, this mission is no good. we can't make it',   Kim said with an air of finality.

'But why', Reeta wouldn't leave.

"You know the distance?  You know they are advanced.  You know they hate us and then deuterium is not the only way to fusion'.

'Fusion is not the real thing, you know it.'

"Then what is it?"

Reeta remained silent.  They had been asked to approach a far- away planet. The mission had a noble sounding mission to make friends with the inhabitats of the planets.  Somehow convince them to agree to share water with them.  The motive being extracting deuterium to fuel the fusion reactors.  But now there was no need to use deuterium for fusion.  Much heavier elements had been found which would suit better.  There must be some other motive, the hidden agenda.  Why travel all the way to Earth for this?

CMN

2. Why do they treat us like like those damn robots ? In any case robots are
doing everything, then why have theu chosen us for this mission ? Obviously
they estimate that risks are far greater than we would take. thsichicanary
is what is bothering me. I love taking risks, but I want to know is it
worth it" Kkim suddenly burst.
"I am sure they know what they are doing, and I have faith in their
judgement", suggested Reetaa
" Is it logical to have blind faith"? questioned Kim.

But my highest expectations are from Zeeshan jee and Manish jee. Some others may just need be told that it's never too late to begin, and some that it's too early to stop.

If we all remain sensitive, a multi handed drive will mean a story with  lot of twists, turns and sweet and sour moments.

And why a story, why not a novel?

Dr. Nautyal Sir,

It is a brilliant idea coming from your side about a sf created by the united efforts.
This will be a unique experiment.Theory guides but the experiment desides. So, let us
contribute our pieces for the completion of the whole sf.Here i m adding my segment for the running sf.                MANISH MOHAN GORE  manish_gore@...

Is any solution of the existing problems on the planet Earth,Kim always thought of.Reeta was also like minded.Space on the Earth is stable while the human need is growing day by day.Population growth, extinction of valuable and plant speices, ozone layer depletion, global warming etc.., were appeared like great challenges before our birth giving motherly planet Earth.

Reeta was serious on the issue and sincere enough to search out the solutions through the referendum among the scientists.

Swapnil jee, what is your take?  Don't you think Tiwari jee and myself are again making it a hi- fi sci-fi?  Come on, intercept. Bring in some societal concern, some emotional element.

Reema jee, we all have differing specialisationss.  So each contribution may have its unique flavour but will fit-in the over all picture.  Please chip in with you bit.  Later, we shall need your role in editing too.

Kim and Reeta are not earthlings, do they have families?  Do they have progeny?  Is their anything like biological reproduction at all in those times?  Everything is uncertain, it's upto us to define.  Even if some others think otherwise, they can introduce more characters matching their preferred charaterstics/ features.  From the same planet (or cloud/ Or space)?

But my highest expectations are from Zeeshan jee and Manish jee. Some others may just need be told that it's never too late to begin, and some that it's too early to stop.

If we all remain sensitive, a multi handed drive will mean a story with  lot of twists, turns and sweet and sour moments.

And why a story, why not a novel?

Its really great that Tiwari ji has now put the story on track.
Its no more Professor Monkey's antics but a real story
workshop/session and is now re named accordingly.
Before any one does it I hastily put forth here my part. And here it goes-
The monitor illuminated and the message which followed was very
conspicuous and both were instantly glued to the screen.
''We can understand the apprehensions of Kim.Its true that aliens have
sometimes behaved like barbarians but such behaviour is not expected
from earthlings. You are suggested to change your negative attitude
towards earth dwellers and behave like a sensible creature.Humans are
no more like barbarians who once definitely exhibited strange and
disgusting customs with ridiculous beliefs and yes their manners were
also very appalling. But this is a description of forgone days. Now
there is a breed of friendly people inhabiting the earth and rest
assure this time our voyage awaits a grand reception on earth....''
Kim took a sigh of relief and glanced over to Rita who had some queer
expression on her face.
Who is coming next please!

It's great Tiwari jee!  Just perfect.

Where are Zeeshan's, Reema's and Swapnil's ?

We are not so much bothered about language at the moment (whether Hindi, English, mixed.., polished or otherwise,..).

Why do they treat us like like those damn robots ? In any case robots are
doing everything, then why have theu chosen us for this mission ? Obviously
they estimate that risks are far greater than we would take. thsichicanary
is what is bothering me. I love taking risks, but I want to know is it
worth it" Kkim suddenly burst.
"I am sure they know what they are doing, and I have faith in their
judgement", suggested Reetaa
" Is it logical to have blind faith"? questioned Kim.
Suddely the Intergalactic phone rang, the screen became alive and both
looked at it keenly, Reetaa was relieved for she didnt have to answer the
awkward question.

A very well beginning indeed! And now  its  to you Respected Tiwari ji and mine opportunity is after you though I lack spontaneity in  English literature but to honour the camaraderie I shall try it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The story would be the alien's view of Earth.  The space travel is a much beaten topic.  But let it not be a space safari.  Once, emotions come in play, it's immaterial where we'll be moving.  If everything were clear, why do this experiment.

I thought of leaving it open to have more options and to have more inputs but if 2 stalwarts feel otherwise, let it be like that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Why don't you drop more hints, kindly?', Reeta said somewhat sarcastically.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The story would be the alien's view of Earth.  The space travel is a much beaten topic.  But let it not be a space safari.  Once, emotions come in play, it's immaterial where we'll be moving.  If everything were clear, why do this experiment.

(I had a discussion with Manish Mohan Gore jee about his story yesterday, and I feel we can have an alternative view)

Your idea is welcome.
But you hae begun with very short, too short an introduction. A hint os some
direction ought to be there, otherwise it may become directionless.

I am suggesting something which ma prove creative.  let's us start writing a story- jointly!  That's true- jointly.  Let each one of us add  own bit to whatever is written by that time.

We start with blank slate.  We shall keep on adding new passages, twists, suspense and so on.  I can not guarantee a great outcome, but it should be in teresting, given the many creative minds.

Names of charactes may be later modified to sound universal. This will be part of our effort to write something for global audience (readers)

Let's start
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

22.06.2007

That was just grand! And very stimulating indeed. To the concluding question, I would say yes, definitely, and writers like you are already doing it.

Dear Friends,

1. He who knows not and knows not and he knows not is a fool shun him.
2. He who knows not and knows he knows not is simple teach him.
3. He who knows and knows not he knows is asleep, awake him.
4. He who knows and knows he knows is wise follow him.
Now enjoy this one too from great medieval saint poet Tulsidas ( My
favorite)-
The reference: ( Lankakand, Ramcharit Manas- a chapter concerned to
face to face fight/ combat in between lord Rama and demon Ravana.)
The Context- Ravana goes on boasting his powers and might and is
humbly interrupted by lord Ram in these beautiful lines-
JANI JALPANA KAR SUYASH NASHAHI, NEETI SUNAHI KARAHI KSHMA,
SANSAR MAH PURUSH TRIVIDH, PATAL, RASAL, PANAS SAMA,
EK SUMANPRAD, EK SUMANPHAL, EK PHALAHI KEVAL LAAGAHI,
EK KAHAHI, KARAHI NAHI, KAHAHI KARAHI EK, EK KARAHI NA KEVAL GAWAHI
And here goes the miserable translation by me- Ravan! Please do not
make your all achievements undone by this kind of boasting, now pardon
me and please listen to me( Ravana enjoyed the status of a great
scholar and that is why this excuse from Lord Rama.) The world is
inhabited by three kinds of people-
- Rose like, mango like and jack fruit like,
- One who speaks only but does not act( like a blossoming rose!),
- One who speaks and act also ( like mango, its inflorescence and then
fruit),
- And lastly one acts only never boast like jack fruit( KATAHAL)[
which is visible only by its fruit.]
So, by the implication Lord Rama suggests to Ravana to not to boast
only but to act.
Please think over these and try to grasp hidden meanings in present
context on the current slump and see how in a very simple language and
with intelligent use of commonplace metaphors this great saint tries
to communicate the knowledge/ wisdom to common masses.
Should SF adopt such communicability in order to reach to common man?
Regards,
Arvind

Its great work Zeashan!. I am extremely thankful to you for giving this opportunity to all group members to read this wonderful sf creativity by you.
Since I have already reviewed the book for a national magazine I am resisting my temptation to put my comments on it right now but shall do it later.
I invite the comments of other respected members on the anthology.
Please do not comment in haste and do it only after reading the stories however delayed your response may be.
I firmly believe that  at least one story of the anthology qualifies for the international standard.Could you spot it?
And for this you have to go for all the stories.Isn't it?

Dear Friends,
The slump in creativity at this forum really calls for an immediate
attention!
Years back I read the following proverb somewhere and do not remember
its source and wish you would like it also because of its content and
hidden meanings- There are four kinds of persons in this world,
