Dear Group Members,
As you know exotic Jatropha is under promotion as drought and
heat tolerant plant. April-May is best time to find out the truth.
In Chhattisgarh thirty percent mortality is common in summer. Last
year I have seen mortality up to 70 percent. Jatropha is planted in
wasteland without any care. No one is there to give atleast one life
saving irrigation. Mortality of Jatropha plant is sad news for the
common public as it is wastage of their money. But for authorites it
is good news. More mortality means more purchase and replantation of
Jatropha in coming rainy season. It seems that Jatropha replantation
is more beneficial than the extraction and use of Biodiesel.
On the other hand Deshi Biodiesel sources like Mahua and Karanj
trees are growing vigorously in summer as they are present in our
soil since time immemorial. Lush green new leaves on Karanj can be
seen everywhere. But these are of no use as thousands of trees are
already present in surroundings and there is no scope for
replantation (and corruption).
