Jatropha scam rocks Uttaranchal Assembly
Dehra Dun: Uttaranchal Assembly was adjourned sine die today after
the Opposition staged noisy protests demanding a CBI probe into the
reported purchase of Rs 2,35 crore worth of Jatropha saplings by the
state government.
As soon as the House reassembled for the last day of the budget
session, Prakash Pant of BJP claimed that the forest department
purchased Jatropha saplings and pesticides worth Rs 2,35 crore while
the department claimed that it did not pay any money for the plants.
Pant claimed that a Cabinet Minister has also raised the Jatropha
issue by writing a letter to Chief Minister N D Tiwari. He urged
Speaker Yashpal Arya to table the letter in the House.
Pant was supported by other BJP members, who stormed into the Well
of the House forcing the Speaker to adjourn the house till 1130
hours.
When the House reassembled, the uproar continued with BJP members
again rushing to the Well demanding a CBI probe into the whole
issue. Again, the Speaker adjourned the House till 1300 hours.
However, when the uproar continued, the Speaker abruptly adjourned
the House sine die.
