Analysis: India's bio-diesel industry
By KUSHAL JEENA
A regular environmental impact assessment of large scale of jatropha
cultivation is required to calculate the economic costs of the
plantation. The statistics available on seed yields and input needs in
jatropha cultivation, as demonstrated by various experiences, are so
varied that any assumption is laden with ambiguity," said the
Association of Chambers of Commerce, an apex Indian trade body, in its
report on the Indian energy scenario. It asked the government to
immediately launch a target-based research program involving public
and private agencies.
The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy has yet to respond to
proposals on the development of bio-diesel fuel.
