Dear Group Members,
Few weeks back I read news that National Biodiversity Authority
has warned this company to stop its activity in India but this news
link clearly says that there is plan to convert over 3.5 lakh hac.
land into dead lands by planting Jatropha. Anyone from NBA hearing????????
http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2007/11/12/stories/2007111250690500.htm

Also there are claims that Jatropha is not planted in crop and forest
lands. Please see this news link
Farmers in Nagaland take up jatropha cultivation on jhum land
http://www.hindu.com/2007/11/12/stories/2007111250700900.htm

It is clear violation of claims. Most of the lands for jhoom
cultivation are in biodiversity rich areas. By planting exotic weed
Jatropha farmers and natives are simply loosing the food crops as well
as biodiversity.

In India suicides by farmers are becoming common. Now by introducing
Jatropha as alternative to profitable food crops the planners and
Jatropha sellers are creating new problem for farmers.
