Imphal, October 07 2009: Public Grievances and Vigilance Forum alleged that
Phungyar Block NREGS Programme Officer R Peter Rang violated the work proposal
submitted by the village NREGS committee and forcibly replaced the project to
Jatropha plantation.

Maintaining that the cost of Jatropha seeds purchased from Zingyar Bio-fuel,
Ukhrul branch was only Rs 60 per kg, the forum alleged that the officer however
convinced the villagers that the cost of seeds was Rs 2500 per kg.

Saying that there has to an agreement between the company and village Jatropha
growers if all Jatropha seeds have to be purchased, the forum said that the
Programme Officer did not initiate any such agreement.
