Re: [linux_chandigarh] How to -- BSNL Broadband in Linux

As far I have seen it and configured it on windows
system? there is no difficulty it doing on Linux.

The common setup (hardware ) offered by BSNL is a
DSL/modem (with some routing functionality). A copper
wire will come from BSNL (as in telephone line) to
your DSL-modem. The DSL modem will have outpur ports
for

1. telephone and
2. one RJ-45 (LAN/UTP) port OR a USB port.

You can connect the LAN port to your computer LAN port
with straight UTP cable. Or add a hub/switch if want
to share youe connection. The DSL modem has some
initial configuration where-in a user and passwd is
stored in DSL modem/router along with some other "ppp"
parameters. The DSL modem has a default IP address,
you have to set your linux machine in that IP segment
in order to able to connect it via browser. All
configuration is done through web interface. Once done
and stored in DSL/modem you connect to internet.
