PU has some deaf ears. Within it some eminent scientists are using all the open source packages, but to explain something to administrators in the univ is a pain in you know what.
Current VC has a creative mind and has many unique ideas for the univ... It might be of use to meet him..
However, i strongly feel that today open source needs no more promotion. People know about it already, they are simply ignorant as they get the M$ products free of cost (piracy zindaband). Whatever it is they are getting their work done and they are happy. Its difficult to induce a spirit or morality in them. If you feel you can influence a change in morality, go ahead. You might get some people from within this group who are ready to move with you.
In general, i understand that as a group our job is not to convince people to use oss (it has its own merits and abilities) but to help those who use it and face some problems.
These are just my views and i am open to criticism of the same!

Hi everyone,
I am a hobbyist using ubuntu, dapper drake and i have found it to be
very good, very likeable. I am in teaching profession and i would like
to do something to promote linux in general, ubuntu in particular as
well as other open source packages like Open Office, firefox, Gaim,
Gimp etc amongst lay computer users, people like me who are not in
computer stream, students especially. It would be so good if Panjab
university
incorporates Open Office along with MSOffice in its courses. They
argue that we have to teach what is common all around. I wonder if
something can be done to change this situation? i would be willing to
chip in time and effort. Please give your ideas and suggestions, lets
have a discussion on this. How about preparing a document which can be
got printed and distributed to principals, Vice Chancellor, professors
or general student community?
