Hi,
Redhat distributes an image and a development tree of the OLPC softare at
http://olpc.download.redhat.com/olpc/streams/development/latest/devel_ext3/
One can use the image in Qemu. One can convert the image using qemu
for use with vmplayer.
However, I did not enjoy the experience in the emulator and wanted to
install it as a bootable partition on a Via C3 system I have and use
it like an appliance.
It is fun to explore Sugar, a different UI environment. In case anyone
is interested in the details:
http://seth.anil.googlepages.com/olpconapc
One of my major reasons for exploring it is that the primary
development environment for students and content creators is python.
Try the activities on small children - I would love to know their
reaction. I am pretty sure that this software may be useful even
without the laptop.

Those of you who know Gurmukhi script, could you please tell me
why do
'matra' characters appear to be jumbled at some punjabi webpages? eg www.badhni.com
Due to incompatible auto-kerning algorithms, most of which are designed
for or take care of Roman scripts only or you may say due to poorly
designed typefaces and, or fonts for Indian languages.
Those of you who know Gurmukhi script, could you please tell me why do

Well then its clear i should start by reading a unix book. This suggestion has been given on linux irc channel too. So i think i shall acquire a unix book soon.Thank you so much .

Me, since 1984, read only one book on Unix i.e. The UNIX Programming
Environment, by Brain W. Kernighan and Rob Pike, ISBN 0-87692-499-2,
Prentice-Hall, New Delhi. For reference, the Unix and, or Linux manual
and, or info pages are enough for me. Occasionally HOWTO and, or FAQ
pages seem quite handy for topics and, or questions not covered by
above.

virt-install and virsh are the easiest way to manage any virtualisation setup
I've seen so far, and they are both included in CentOS-5.

Dear Members,
A couple of months ago, when we held our editorial meeting to discuss
about the August issue, an interesting point was made, and it came
almost like a revelation. We realised that we have published myriad
articles on popular distros like Fedora, openSUSE and Ubuntu, but
probably never done due justice to the true community distro - Debian
Linux. So, here we are, with the Debian special issue.
This issue is special, both on the editorial as well as the DVD front.
Not only does it bundle the full set of three DVDs containing the
complete Debian package, it also features the best of articles on the
Debian project
Apart from Debian, embedded development seems to be the pseudo theme
for this issue. In addition to an article on debootstrap, we have a
couple of more articles on this topic that should be of interest to
the developer community, especially those working in the field of
Embedded development.
Talking about the industry, probably the biggest news that made
headlines this month was CUPS' creator Michael Sweet's announcement
that Apple has acquired the project. Though nothing seems fishy from
the outside and community also seems to be pretty cool about it, we
have tried our bit to explore the pros and cons of this move.
We have put in our best to make this issue extra special for our
readers. We used to get a lot of requests for bundling the complete
Debian distro with LINUX For You. This time, not only we have done
that, but also got the best of authors to write about Debian. That's
why, I hope that our readers will be able to appreciate our decision
to price this issue at Rs 125. Though the subscribers remain
unaffected from this price change. Another reason to subscribe, I must
say Wink

Debian is a free operating system for your computer. An operating
system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your
computer run. Debian uses the Linux kernel (the core of an operating
system), but most of the basic OS tools come from the GNU project;
hence the name GNU/Linux.
Debian GNU/Linux provides more than a pure OS: it comes with over
18,733 packages, precomplied software bundled up in a nice format for
easy installation on your machine.
To start the installation, boot from the DVD. Make sure your BIOS
setup is configured to allow booting from DVD. To try out the new
graphical installer type installgui and hit ENTER.
We hope you enjoy reading the issue. Please send all your feedback on
