Discussion group for helping schools to setup and use GNU/Linux in India.
LTSP = Linux Terminal Server Project ( www.ltsp.org ).
K12LTSP = Fedora + LTSP + Educational software ( www.k12ltsp.org )
K12LTSP is the easiest distribution for setting up Thin Clients or Diskless Computers using Linux.
Advantages of LTSP :
1.Software cost zero.
2.Low hardware cost of clients (No HDD,FDD,CD-ROM required):
Example Clients :
a) Pentium I processor 100mhz,32 MB memory,old 15" colour monitor - Rs.5000/-
b) New Via C3 800MHz processor based clients with new monitor - Rs.10,000/-
3.Lot of educational softwares for small children of age 3 years to programing tools to Engineering students are available.
4.GNU/Linux is almost virus free.
5.Ease of managing childrens computer usage.Children can not delete other users files in Linux. They cannot change the system settings and corrupt the system.
6.They can not install any program from CD,floppy or from internet.
7.Centralized Administration.
