Hello Mahesh,
I think it is not bcoz of 9 songs that Ghulam
Haider's role is considered important in Lata career. It is bcoz he
was the first top music director who took stand for Lata. Lata
mentioned that several times in Lata in her own voice, Lata Favorites
4 cassette set etc. At that time his favorite singer was Shamshad
Begum, and he was looking for a new voice. For the film Shaheed?, the
producer wanted Ghulam Haider to use the heavy of Surinder Kaur and
rejected Lata's thin voice, but Ghulam wanted to use Lata's vocie
instead. I think the tunes were composed by keeping Lata's voice in
mind. If you look at it closely, Ghulam Haider preferring Lata at
that time of her career, actually led to the downfall of Shamshad
Begum et al. Therefore, his contribution to Lata's career is still
important even though Lata only sang 9 songs for him and even though
I dont like "Dil mera toda".
Ummer.
