We are sure all of you had a good time celebrating the Makara
Sankranthi.
At UNNATI we have the good news of getting placements for all the 25
students of the Fourth Batch-Eighteen from Retail Sales and Seven from
Tailoring.
We got all placements in record time i.e. within ten weeks of starting
the course.
More than that is the fact that our students got a variety of
placements such as medical representatives, factory supervisor, Telemarketing
wing of Stanchart Bank, Fabmall Retail Chain and the Foodworld Retail Chain
with fairly good salaries to start with. The Tailoring group also got jobs in
reputed organizations such as Arvind Mills, Gokaldas Group etc.
For all this the
credit goes to the dedicated Team of Faculty who trained these students all the
ten weeks. We are grateful to each one of them.
We are also
grateful to M/S Levis for their Corporate Community Service Grant faculty
support, supply of consumables etc. M/S Gokaldas Images have been helping us
from the beginning by supplying the tailoring machines and the consumables for
the training: we are indeed indebted to them for their response to the cause.
We also thank all our donors and well-wishers and also those who have been
counseling us in our activities.
Thus we have made
a difference in the lives of as many as 105 downtrodden families in the society
in the four batches conducted for the past 15 months from Oct 2003 with the
multiplier effect that has created in their respective neighbourhood.
Now we are
preparing ourselves for the fifth batch, which we intend starting from 1st
March 2005.
We require your
help in the following:
vIdentifying and recommending deserving
poor candidates, age18 to 21 and SSLC Passed/Failed. Tailoring only ladies and
for Retail Sales both gents and ladies.
vTry and help us in continuing the noble
cause by donating for UNNATI, which gives 100% Tax exemption under Sec 35
AC/Sec 80 GGA of I.T Act. This will also serve as a part of your Tax planning
for this financial year.
vPersuade your
friends/relatives/acquaintances to help us financially by donating a part of
their funds set apart for helping good causes; if they are able to contribute
their time they may be advised to contact us.
vGive us the E mail Ids of your above
contacts to enable us to send them our appeal.
Coming to the other
activities of Sree Guruvayurappan Bhajan Samaj Trust, Thyagaraja &
Purandara Dasa Aradana Celebrations are scheduled to be conducted for 8 days
from 6th Feb 2005 to 13th Feb 2005 at Odakkathur Mutt
Hall, Ulsoor consisting of programmes of Music, Bhajans etc The pamphlets are
getting ready and will be mailed to all well-wishers directly.

Concerts, Educational Help for the poor are the other ongoing activities of the
Trust.

I cannot but just appreciate at the
thoughtful message sent by Mr. Visal. As we keep
getting information about the magnitude of devastation hour after hour, all
thought of enjoyment has definitely fleeted away from my mind. When we hear of
people suffering mentally and physically having lost their kith & kin and
fighting uncertainty from all quarters we need to waken our lost sensitivity

disaster.
Hence my appeal to one and all is let us

saying that its time to cheer and be happy as we enter the New Year.
But, hold back a moment...2004 is
not over yet and in its last days it has brought the worst kind of devastation
to thousands and millions of people in South East Asia including India. It is time
for us the reflect.
Are we going to continue to live our
lives thinking of this disaster as some isolated incident that does not affect
us or relate to us - go ahead with our new year celebrations or are we going to
take up this responsibility and do somethin about it.
This question has kept me wondering.
The first thought was that I will not spend money on going to a splendid New
Year bash. I can save that money and put it in some relief work. But, then I
don't go to New Year Parties anyway.
Hence, I have decided that I will
contribute Rs. 1000 of my December salary of Rs. 8000/- towards relief work for
the affected people. I have set the ball rolling and I urge all of you to take
it forward from here.
It is your choice - a New Year Bash
for Rs. 1500 with friends and family or a quiet dinner at home and satisfaction
that the Rs. 1500 can help a mom rebuild her house, get some food for her
homeless children and a fisherman who can hope to restart his fishing business
with this small contribution. You can check out CNBC or NDTV to get contacts of

Dr.Reddy's Foundation(DRF)-the social organization of Dr.Reddy's Lab,Hyderabd runs a Program called the LABS ( The Livelihood Advancement Business School) which has created a very organized model for training youth(age group aboive 18 years) from poor backgrounds- getting them to go through a very organized training for three months and then getting them employment thereafter.Their methodology is very proven and they operate a partnership model.
I would recommend that Unnati tries to collaborate with them if it makes sense. They have trained more than 15000 youth so far in the last three years.

Dear Well Wishers and the members of the core UNNATI Team,
Happy Christmas and happy New Year
Till recently we were sending periodical updates of UNNATI project to the members of Core UNNATI Team using outlook express. It was a little time consuming and cumbersome and we could communicate with only a limited number of persons.
We have now created a Yahoo Group called unnatisgbstrust through which we can send the updates to all our well wishers and core members of UNNATI Team easily at one go.Moreover the members also can send messages and there are lot of useful features in the Yahoo group.
As many of you know, we have already completed three batches and trained 80 students and placed them also in suitable organizations. Thus we have already made a difference in the lives of eighty families and also have created a ripple in their respective neighbourhood.
We are now in the midst of the fourth batch with 25 students. The classes started from November 2004 and we are likely to complete the training by the third week of Jan2005.
We would request you to help us in the following:
Be on the lookout of suitable placements for the Tailoring students in Garment Factories and for the Retail Sales students in Retail Chains / small enterprises/establishments and inform us so that we can contact the prospective employers.
Try to help us in getting suitable candidates for the next batch likely to start from March 2005.We select the youth from the poor sections of society, age 18 to 21 and SSLC passed or failed. For the tailoring vocation we select only ladies and for Retail Sales both gents &ladies. Children of servants/Drivers/Watchmen and other deserving students from your neighbourhood. You may advise the children or their parents to get in touch with us.
Try to help us in our financial requirements .As the donations to UNNATI project of SGBS Trust are exempted to the extent of 100% under Sec35AC/Sec 80GGA(Cheques to be drawn in favour of SGBS Trust) your contributions will help in Tax Planning.
Try to persuade your friends/relatives/acquaintances to contribute to the UNNATI project. If E Mail Ids are given to us we will send our appeal to them.
If any of your friends/relatives/acquaintances could contribute their time in teaching the students you may inform us and also request them to contact us.
You may be aware that the 7th Year Shardotsav was celebrated in a grand manner from 4th Dec to 7th Dec 2004.
The monthly musical concerts are also conducted every month.
Weekly Bhajans are also going on.
The Aradana of Thyagaraja and Purandaradasa will be held in February 2005 as usual.

As we Approach to Celebrate Christmas and Welcome the New Year 2005..
I would like to take this opportunity to Wish Every one of you a Merry Christmas, and Lots of Happiness, Joy , Peace and Prosperity in the New year 2005.
As we wish each other, and look forward to a even more better year ahead, I would like to leave a thought behind for each of you.. a small poem by Karen Ravn, I came across.. which may have a lot of meaning for all of you..
Only as high as I reach can I grow, Only as far as I seek can I go, Only as deep as I look can I see, Only as much as I dream can I be.
With Best Wishes and Warm Regards...
Mahesh
