Mansar
The description of chapters is as follows: -
Chapter 1 This describes the complete content of the text, titles of the
all seventy chapters.
Chapter 2 The system of measurement-Today we use inch, centimeter,
meter, kilometer etc. to measure a distance. In the ancient time the smallest
unit was the atom, which can be seen through rishi eyes. Next to this is
car-dust and so on upto yojan or more. A beautiful description of different
units, scale, how to make scale (hasta) is given in the text. They might use
these small units to make idols of jems etc., and large units to measure the
distance between continents, stars etc.,
Chapter 3-5 Selection of land and testing of soil
Before to go ahead with the construction, the first step is to select the site
that too according to the class of people who want to reside. So the human being
is divided into different class and accordingly the selection of site is to be
done. What should be shape of the land, what location is to be avioded?, what
type of the soil should, what are the different procedure of the soil testing.
Against the modern test process the soil the tested on the site itself so as to
get the correct result. In the modern method the soil is tested in the
laborartory so the effect of laboratoty (tempature, humidity etc,) might affect
the results. For Details see the TEXT
Chapter 6 To find-out cardinal direction
In Vastu directions described are True North, True East, True South, True West
and not the magnetic one. To get the all the True diection the process is
described in the Text. With the help of a Sanku (gomon) and through the process
of sun-shadow the directions are obtained.
Chapter 7-8 Vastu devta
After the selection of the site and examination the soil, the next step is to
start the construction. The first step is to divide the plot into different
zones or segments or divisions. Each division is knows as a pada. The energy of
each division is represented by a deity. According to the nature of the energy
is activity is to be assign in the pada, that is known as planning. To know the
deity of the pada please refer the text.
Chapter 9-10 Town-planning
According to size, shape, inhabitants, utilities etc. different types of town
are planned in Vastu. They are dandaka etc. for retired people. Swastic etc,
according to road network. Pattan etc., when at the bank of river or at
seashore. And others accoding to inhabitates. Temporary like sivir, camp etc.
Chapter 11 The dimension of building
What should be ratio of width to height of building to achieve peace, health,
victory or fulfillment of all desire is elobatory explained.
Chapter 12 The Vastu-correction
There are different methods of Vastu-Corrections. Various materials like roots,
jems, mineral, etc are used. The chapter deals the process in detail.
Chapter 13-18 Building Elements (base, column, Roof etc.,)
Different builing element like pedestal, base, column, entablature and roof are
explained in these chapters. Their sizes, mouldings are described.
Chapter 19-30 1-12 story Buildings
Chapter 31 Compound Wall
Compound wall are known as prakara in Vastu. It may be the compound wall of a
temple or fort or town. Their detailing size, width, thickness, moulding are
explained.
Chapter 32 Families of Deities
The temple of any deity is to be made with their families. Who are the different
family member of different deity. In which direction the temple of a deity is to
be built.
Chapter 33 The gate house (gopur-vidhana)-gate house is the main entry of
a town or temple, fort or palace. It should be made beautifully. It may be one
to seven stories. Different icon or images are installed. For details see text.
Chapter 34 The mandapa
Mandap is a pavillion. There different types of pavillions depending upon the
activities that are to be perfomed, like marriage, bath, ceremony, corination
etc. mandap are also decided on the basic of the Varna.
Chapter 35-36 Rooms and Placement of Rooms
This is the chapter most of the people want to learn or know i.e. the planning
acoording to vastu. In the direction one should built the room of son, where
should be room of the owner, where daughter should live. In which direction puja
room should be built etc. different planning and locations and their alternate
are given. For detail see text.
Chapter 37 The first entry into the house
After the completion of the house the first entry is made. The completer process
is described.
Chapter 38-39 Doors (place and size)
Door is the main entry in the house. As the th of a person takesthe feed through
the door the enrgy enters into the house. It should be at the proper place.
Different auspicous locations of the door according to the facing of the plot
are given in the chapter.
Chapter 40-42 King and Palaces-there are different kings according to their
properties and wealth. For each category their name is given and their palace is
built accordingly. Description is given in the text.
Chapter 43-45 Funiture (bed, chair etc.,). Furniture like bed, chair, and box
are described. What should be their sizes, what are the different auspicous
carvings according to Vastu those are to be carved on bed, couches etc. for
details see text.
Chapter 46-47 Arches, Ornaments and Ornamental Tree
At the main entrance different arches can be made. There is a tree known as kalp
vriksha (a tree that fulfill all desires). The description of tree is there.
Ormentation of deities are different. say the crown of brahma ji, vishnuji and
shivji is different. their ornaments are different. there is a detail
description of ornaments of deities. Ornaments of brahma, vishnu, shiv, durga
and others.
Chapter 51-68 Linga, pitha, God-Goddess and their mounts, Devotees, Images and
their Casting
There are different sizes, materials of linga. In planning a temple the size of
linga is determine in proportion the size of temple, or owner (builder), in
angulas, hasta. Different linga gives different result, some gives wealth, other
victory etc, similarly the size and proportion of image (icon) are given for
different deities, their mounts. Thre are four class of devotee, their
iconography is given.
Chapter 69 The defects
If the construction is not made according to the rule of vastu shastra defect
occure. This chapter describes different defects.
Chapter 70 The chiselling of the eye
(Nayanonmilana-lakshana-vidhana)
The last chapter of mansar deals with the prana-pratishtha of idol.
