Food For Thought
The dining room or area has a special place in vaastu shastra.
The room should contain a table large enough for family and
guests to entertain with food. Keep in mind that the dining area is
directly related to the health, harmony as well as prosperity of the
family.
A good dining room, which has been made using vaastu principles,
often brings strength to all members of the family.
A dining room that is in harmony will naturally strengthen human
relationships among friends and family.
Regardless of whether you take your meal at the dining table
regularly or not, there are some simple vaastu suggestions about the
dining room that you'll want to observe:
The shape supports the energy flow, so the dining table should
ideally be in a spuare or rectangular shape.
As per vaastu, square or rectangular shape represents the
stability.
People at the dining table should never face south while taking a
meal.
The master of the house should occupy the most important chair
which is at south west side facing north or east.
Use of colours like green, orange as well as yellow is highly
recommended in the dining area.
Any share of grey or brown should not be used in dining area.
Any painting placed near the dining area should be cheerful and
attractive.
Place images of fruits, vegetables, greenery or something which
stimulate your appetite.
The display of sad art has no place in the dining area.
Dining with your family should be a fun and happy experience.
According to ancient books on vaastu, the dining table placement
is recommended at west part of the house.
Dining table should not be placed below the beam. Overhead beam
carries burden of the whole building structure, which causes
pressing down the luck.
A dining room should be free of distraction including
televisions, clutter, and large amounts of table top décor.
The wash basin can be placed in the North or East side of the
dining area.
Avoid having the dining room seen from the front door. This can
cause a loss of wealth.
Mirrors can be used to good advantage in the dining room.
It also stimulates energy flow, which in turn stimulates
conversation.

Regarding the garage placement, what about placing the garage some distance ( 13 feet) from the house, with a 9-foot wide connection between the two so that people can walk "indoors" to the garage? This area would also be used for storing firewood and garden tools.

The kitchen is at south east corner facing west side along with another bedroom facing west side. Toilet is at North East, facing south side. Our drawing room is always closed from entrance (i.e. west side) because of security reasons. what will be the impact of such design. our pooja room is at first floor facing west side. is it good?

Dear Nitinn,
I am trying to think of ways not to form an L by adding the garage in the NW. What if we also add a patio area to the NE? That would be an "outdoor room," though, not actually part of the building. (But then, neither is the garage actually part of the house.)
Would it work if we added a small raised wall around the N and E sides of a patio that would fill in the L and make the house/garage/patio all into a rectangle? Perhaps a foot tall flower planter that is a foot or more wide, could be built that would form the outline of the "extended house."
Would something like this solve the problem?

Hello,
There is nothing wrong in putting a garage at north west. Absolutely
perfect place for car garage as per vastu. Important is you should
not make the house L shapewith the garage.
Also if it is made in basement then whole north side should be down
and not just only north west.
Best wishes

We hope to build a new home soon and are wondering about garage
placement. We live in northern USA, where it is very cold and snowy in
the winter, very different from India where Vastu was created. (And,
there were no cars then, anyway.) Here, if you don't attach your
garage to your house, it is a hardship in winter.
Some Vastu teachers say it's OK to attach the garage, or even put
it underneath the house. Others say absolutely not. Also, they
differ in the direction where one should put the garage.
What we want to build will contain not just the car, but also wood
for heating our home. I would like to have a little door that opens
between the garage and the house, through which we can put wood that
has been stored dry in the garage. There would be a storage cupboard
for it in the house at that spot. This would make life a lot easier.
How about putting such a garage on the NW of the house, with one
common wall?
Thank you,

As mentioned in texts, Trees with insects, worms, honey bees, bumble
bee, owls, serpents, should be avoided.Same thing applied inside the
house also.

Hello,
All the toilets positions mentioned by you are not good as per
vastu. North,North east and south west are never recommended for
toilets.
In kitchen placing stove at east is first priority but in your case
if not possible place it at the west.
We suggest you to email the layout to guide you better on the issue.

North or North East of the house are considered to be the places of
high sanctity and are ruled by LORD KUBERA.Constructing toilets in this
place destructs wealth and fortune. It is advisable to use the toilet
in the South West by dismantling the two toilets in the North forthwith.

Dear vastu shastri's,
If anybody is suffering from skin problems then what changes might be
there as per vastu and fengshui rules for the solutions, probably if
the patient is a woman?...... plz advice me.
Kitchen in the North is not bad while it is not advisable in the
West.Normally the hoteliers use the North West as their place for
kitchen as it is VAAYAVYAM(as the air should be allowed to pass
outside). The water used their should be allowed to pass towards East.

Dear Sir or Madam
I live in a double storey house. I have 3 bath/toilets:
2 of them in the north/northeast(upper and lower floor) and one in the
S SWEST sector(upper floor).
Please advise which is the most suitable toilet/bath to use.
Also can my wife cook facing west or north which is better. East not
possible as kitchen is in the NWEST.
Thank you.

Hello,
You will invite trouble by putting mirror at south west . Mirror
should never on the south west corner. Also refelcing water feature
at south west is a wrong placement. Avoid this.
For south west door, the effective remedies are :
1. Place a copper pyramid above the door at outside
2. Place horse shoeabove the door
3. Do not decorate the south west door too much
4. Put a dummy door at north east

I have 2 questions. One is I want to put a ig mirror on the S-SW wall
of my living room as the mirror will reflect beautiful river view from
the windows in NE. From vastu point is it of to do this . There is a
mirror on the N_NW wall too.
Second question is that my apartment has main door towards the S of
SW(the main bld door is also in the same direction). This I believe is
not good. As I cant change anything in the outside of my apt, is there
anything that I can do inside to cure this problem?
Thanks for your response.
