Hello! I am trying to calibrate my model with one set of well
observations and every time I try to run PEST, it says that the .hob
file could not be opened. It appears as though a .hob file is not
created -- any suggestions?
Thanks!
Hello everyone.
I need to modeling a electrokinetic process to removal heavy metals (Co and Cr
VI) in shallow aquifer. But I don't know how to do this with Visual Modflow.
Can anyone help me with any information?
Thank you very much.
Jeane Penoff.
Dear Member,
Can you please refer me to any relevant literature (case
studies/papers/web resources) pertaining to unsaturated and saturated
groundwater flow modelling to study the impact of rainwater
harvesting structures and artificial recharge structures on
groundwater system.
My apologies for cross-postings.
Thanks & Regards
Kumar

Not been able to calibrate targets successfully.
The model sensitivity does not show any specific parameters sensitive.
Could that be due to a coarse discretization effect?
Thanks in advance
Head boundary conditions in Visual MODFLOW, provided that you are in layer view,
are assigned layer by layer. In the Input menu select the Boundaries menu, and
select either Constant Head or General Head. Go to the layer you whish to assign
the appropriate boundary conditions (either steady state or transient) and
select Assign (Single, Line, Polygon or Window). Draw the boundary (right click
when you finished digitizing the boundary) and a pop up window will show up
where you can define your transient boundary condition by chosing the desired
Start Time and Stop Time. You may define as many intervals as you whish within
your model time frame. If you would like to assign the boundary exactly to the
layer you selected, do not check the Assign to appropriate layer check box.
Please read the online help or get back to me if you have further questions.
Hope this helped.

Subject: [visual-modflow] Assigning different boundary heads to confined and
uncontined layers
I need to assign differing transient head boundaries to a confined
layer than the unconfined layer of my model. How can this be done?
Hello,
I have a transport model in MT3DMS. From the results, I can plot the
concentration contours. Also, from the mass balance, I can read the
total mass of the contaminant in the aquifer.
Question: is it possible to extract information about the total volume
of contaminated groundwater in Visual Modflow? ((e.g. volume with
concentration > 100 ug/L contaminant)?
Thanks,
Greetz,
Arjen
If I were you firstly I would check the boundry condition and
rectify the boundry condition .There might also exist a wrong data
in your input file that might have been generated due to simple
mistakes.also check for the units and how u convert units this is
common if thats your firt time modeling groundwater flow.

Dear gio2anne,
as first attempt you can:
1) refine the grid;
2) change the solver;
1) in order to refine the grid, in input menu select grid/edit grid/
(edit row) or (edit column) or (edit layer)/ refine by (number).
2) in order to change the solver in Vmengine window
select "modflow2000" (on the left). Then try to select another solver
(for example PCG2 or WHS, or, LMG, ecc...) and in top menu bar
select "run".
Best regard
G. Bernagozzi
it's very easy
For example, your model contains 3 layers, You have to just change the name of
the layer in option goto (input module)
good luck

Hi Subrata,
I didn't take any training for MODFLOW but it took me a considerable time to
strengthen my basics and i learnt MODFLOW while working on it. Mcdonald and
Harbaugh book helped me a lot to get hold on gw modeling basics.
I am currently posted in guwahati and I am looking for some better options.
I am sending you the references of my thesis, hope this helps.
If u find any problem in the working of MODFLOW, then you are always welcome.
With best wishes

hello i'm morroccan student in hydrogeology and I am a new user of visual
modflow.
I would like to have your opinion concerning how to calculate the quantity of
pollutant in gram in a plume simulated using visual modflow. I imagine that one
will use the option zone budget on the meshs covered by the pollution which one
will multiply by the concentration calculated on each mesh. Except that the
plume covers only one portion of certain meshs. How approach you one in this
case?
Thank you for your assistance.
I'm trying to import a modflow 2000 dataset in Visual Modflow,
created by the MF96to2k.exe tool. The original model was a modflow96
model created in PM Win. I ran in to the following problem:
The original model (modflow96) works with user defined leakance
(VCONT) and transmissivity. Modflow 2000 of course uses conductance
and thickness.
Kz is calculated by Visual Modflow when a modflow 2000 dataset is
imported, using VCONT and thickness of the layers. The thickness of
the layers is defined by hand (when using the MF96to2k tool), which
is a (arbitrary) constant thickness. The layer thickness, however was
also defined in the original PM Win model, and is not constant at all.
I wish to use a discretization file created by PM win,in stead of the
one created by MF96to2k, so I renamed the discretization file to
match the name in the .nam file.
Visual Modflow however, does not accept my discretization file. An
error occurs.
My question: can Visual Modflow import a modflow 2000 model with a
non-constant thickness, and if so, how can I check what the problem
with the PM Win discretization file is?
Thanks,
Arjen Oord
Hi Elizabeth is very easy..
You need more information, tell me...

Hi Dear Members
I have some querries regarding the Visual modflow simulation. i found this
group and i hope that i will get some guidance in this regard.
1.I am doing work in an alluvial plain and developing a three layered model of
the unconfined aquifer system of the area. I am bit confused in assigning the
boundary conditions for the canal that whether it should be assigned a stream
boundary or a recharge boundary and moreover it would be assigned on the top
layer or in the other lower layers as well.
2.If there are streams in the area but those are having a very little flow
whether those should be assigned as the stream boundaries or left opened.
I will be really thankful.
Regards
Philip,
If you want to know how to use the program the user guide is very
good, if you want to know something more about the finite difference
method there should be a pdf file attached with the program package
that describes the theory. By the way you can find more about the
engine MODFLOW at the following webpage:
