BH: main Bombay to filmi duniya ke liye hi aaya tha, zyaati taur par
mujhe Bombay aane ka kuchh shauk naheen tha. lekin mujhe kuchh
achchhe logon ne yahaan aane ke liye kahaa tha aur mujhe
unhone 'promise' kiya tha ki 'ham agar aap ke liye koi gaana
banaayenge to aap aakar gaayenge kya?' to maine kahaa ki 'main zaroor
gaayunga'. to aise hi Madan saahab ne mujhe poochha tha Delhi mein,
marhoom Madan Mohan saahab ne aur Chetan Anand saahab ne. unki film
Haqeeqat ban rahi thi to shaayad unko koi nayi aawaaz chaahiye thi.
to unke kehne par main 'film industry' mein gaane ke liye hi aaya tha.

BH: (laughs) yeh bahut ek ajeeb si baat hai ki jis cheez ke baare
mein naheen socha tha woh thi 'acting'. ki main kabhi filmon
mein 'acting' karoon, yeh baat mere dimaag mein kabhi aati naheen
thi. to main to gaane ke liye aaya tha, pataa naheen Chetan saahab ko
mujhmein kya nazar aaya, mera gaana jo maine gaaya tha mere upar
hi 'picturise' karke aur bahut logon se taaliyaan bajwaayi thi ki,
aur yeh bhi, baDi baat main bolna naheen chaahta hoon ki, yeh
bhi 'announce' kiya tha ki 'I am going to make another Singing Saigal

liya, to paarshwa gaayan mein Gazlon ka daaman aap ne kis tarah
thaamaa?

BH: achchha 'question' hai kyunki mujhe pehli baar kisi ne poochha
hai, jab maine filmon mein 'playback' shuru kiya tha to us samay
mere 'favourite playback singers' the, Mohd Rafi saahab the, Talat
Mahmood saahab the, Kishore dada the, Manna Dey saahab hain, inko
dimaag mein chhoDke mujhe aur kuchh, doosra gaana jamta hi naheen
tha. to mere dimaag mein ek baat thi ki yeh log bahut hi
zabardast 'singers' hain, dimaag mein kya yeh to sahi baat thi aur

farmaaishen aati hain. 'reason' shaayad yeh ho sakta hai ki meri
aawaaz mein shaayad mera apnaapan hai, maine aawaaz mein kisi
ki 'copy' naheen kee, mera apna 'style' hai, mujhe kudrat ne jo
aawaaz baKhshi hai, jo 'reward' mujhe diya hai, main usi ko aage

RB: Bhupendra-ji, kuchh saal pehle baazaar mein jaise Gazlon ka
ek 'boom' sa aa gaya tha, achaanak bahut saare log bahut saari
cheezen gaa rahe the aur Gazlen hi Gazlen chaaron taraf se sunaayi
deti thi. Gazal aajkal Khaamosh kyun hai?

BH: hamaare mulk mein bahut se 'changes' aa rahe hain, aur
woh 'changes' hamaari jo 'culture', jo sabhyataa hai, usse ThoDe se
haTke hain. to 'recording companies' shaayad yeh sochte hain ki
Gazals ke 'records' shaayad naheen bike, aur isliye woh
zyaada 'promote' karte hain yeh 'pop music albums', aur yahi 'reason'
hai ki filmi Gazlen yaa aisi filmen jinmein kuchh 'authentic' Gazlen
ho sakte hain woh aapko zyaada nazar naheen aa rahi hai. yahi
kaaran 'filmmakers' ki taraf se bhi hai, unki bhi yeh zimmedaari honi
chaahiye thi ki hamaari 'culture' ko zindaa rakhen. main yeh sochta
hoon ki 'film directors', 'actors', 'music directors', 'artistes'
log, inke upar bhi ek zimmedaari hoti hai, ek 'moral obligation' inke
upar hoti hai, ek 'moral' zimmedaari hoti hai, kyunki agar bhagwaan

RB: Bhupendra-ji, har cheez ka ek daur aata hai, samay gatisheel hai,
aata hai aur nikal jaata hai. ham ummeed karte hain ki sangeet ka jo
sunehra daur jo dekha hai logon ne, ummeed karte hain ki woh phir
aaye aur aanewaali peeDhee us daur ko dohraaye.

BH: main aap ke saath praarthana karoonga ki jo aap soch rahi hain
kaash aisa ho, kaash kuchh logon ko itni samajh aaye ki is baat par
Gaur kare ki hamaari aanewaali peeDhiyon ko hindustaani hi rehne de,
kyunki jo ham denge wohi 'coming generation' usko 'grasp' karegi.
unko kuchh achchhi cheez denge to woh kuchh achchhi cheez seekhenge,
aur kuchh Kharaab cheez denge to woh Kharaab hi seekhenge.

RB: Bhupendra-ji, aaiye yahaan se ek baar phir muD jaate hain
kavitaaon aur shaayari ki taraf. kavitaa likhne ka yaa shaayari
paDhne ka ek tareeka hota hai, ek niyam hota hai, yaani kavita likhne
yaa shaayari likhne mein 'meter' ka dhyaan rakha jaata hai. aur aap
ne kai geet aise gaaye hain jinmen 'meter' ka dhyaan naheen rahaa,
yaani aise 'experiment' keh sakte hain jaise film Mausam ka ek geet
hai, aise 'experiment' ko aap kya kahenge?

BH: usko 'black verse' kehte hain, 'black verse' yaani jiska 'meter'
naheen hota hai, jaise aap mujhse baat kar rahi hain, jaise ham aapas
mein baat karte hain, 'its called black verse', 'actually black
verse' gaayi naheen jaati, usko gaana mushkil hota hai, usko 'meter'
pe le jaana mushkil hota hai, lekin phir bhi main aap se kehna
chaahta hoon ki maine ismen 'experiment' kiya tha, maine ek 'record'
banaaya tha, woh jo Shaayar tha uska naam tha, aur usmein jitne bhi 6

hogi ki aap ko apna kaun sa bachcha sabse zyaada achchha lagta hai.

BH: yeh baat to sahi hai ki jo bhi 'composition' karta hoon, woh apne
bachche ki tarah hi hoti hai, lekin phir log jo hain aage woh
bachchon ko alag alag kar dete hain, kisi ko kuchh pasand aata hai,
kisi ko kuchh pasand aata hai, to main jitni bhi 'composition' karta
hoon, jo main aur Mitali banaate hain, unmein kuchh na kuchh sabke
liye rakhte hain, jo ki mehfil mein, abhi sanjeeda Gazlen to log
naheen sunte, haalaanki sanjeeda Gazlen gaana aur
sanjeeda 'composition' gaana mera 'subject' hai 'you know, I love to
sing it', lekin phir kuchh 'romantic' Gazlen, kuchh chheD-chhaaD ke
geet, yaa kuchh sharaab ke geet yeh sab kuchh gaane paDte hain, so
aap mujhe poochhen to main jitni bhi 'compositions' karta hoon, 'I
love them, I like them'.

RB: zindagi mein aisi koi Khwaahish jo abhi tak poori na huyi ho?

BH: bas aur achchha gaa sakoon, aur logon ki Khidmat kar sakoon, aur
achchha gaata rahoon!
